The Ghana National AfCFTA Coordination Office, in collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and other key partner agencies, recently organized a successful Market Entry Expedition to Kenya from 23rd to 27th May 2023. The expedition aimed to strengthen trade relations between Ghana and Kenya, facilitate business partnerships, and explore market opportunities in the East African region.
The highlight of the Market Entry Expedition was an exhibition that showcased the products of over seventy (70) Ghanaian businesses. The exhibition provided a platform for Ghanaian companies to showcase their goods and services to the Kenyan market. Among the participants was Bubune Africa, a renowned Ghanaian skincare cosmetic company, introducing its skincare line known as Bubune Skincare. With a goal to expand its market presence in East Africa, Bubune Africa saw the Expo 2023 as a valuable opportunity to connect with potential customers and partners in Kenya.
In addition to the exhibition, the Market Entry Expedition featured trade seminars and Business-to-Business (B2B) sessions. These events allowed Ghanaian businesses to engage directly with their Kenyan counterparts, fostering networking and knowledge sharing. The B2B sessions facilitated meaningful discussions and the exploration of potential partnerships, paving the way for future trade collaborations between the two countries.
Notably, the expedition marked the official launch of the Ghana Export Trade House by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). This initiative aims to establish a one-stop, wholesale outlet for Made-in-Ghana products in the Kenyan market. The Ghana Export Trade House will play a crucial role in promoting Ghanaian goods and facilitating their distribution across the Eastern and Southern regions of Africa. This strategic move is expected to boost Ghana’s export potential and contribute to the growth of the country’s economy.
Among the notable attendees at the expo was Woode Maya, a Ghanaian socialist, who actively promoted made-in-Ghana goods. His presence underscored the importance of supporting local industries and empowering Ghanaian entrepreneurs. By advocating for the consumption of domestic products, Woode Maya highlighted the significance of promoting Ghana’s unique cultural heritage and encouraging sustainable economic development within the country.
The Market Entry Expedition to Kenya served as a catalyst for expanding trade and investment opportunities between Ghana and Kenya. It demonstrated the commitment of both nations to fostering closer economic ties and leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to boost intra-African trade. As Ghanaian businesses like Bubune Africa venture into new markets, the future looks promising for increased collaboration and mutually beneficial partnerships between Ghana and Kenya, ultimately contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the African continent.
